Atom Steel Ltd from Kocani is the only company in Macedonia that specializes in the production of steel arches for support during the construction of tunnels. With our patented arches-lattice girders, we have grown into a recognized brand for the construction of tunnels on the construction market in several European countries – Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia.
During its development, the company achieved great success, we built a large number of facilities and acquired partners all over the world, says our manager. He explains that in the last ten years, the Atom Steel team has been focused on the production of metal structures, the production of architectural steel structures, the production of tanks, autoclaves, containers, silos, steel bridges, mining equipment, tunnel construction…
The company, as our manager says, is now engaged in the construction of the tunnels on the Farish – Drenovo road and on the Kicevo – Ohrid highway. On these roads, we also participated in solving the problem of water extraction with special archers. And, with the successful completion of one of the tunnels in the middle of the mountain lake, it was just another positive assessment in our profile that brought our involvement in the construction of the tunnels of the corridors through Serbia and Montenegro, and in Banja Luka in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We can unabashedly say that In the field of steel arches, in the Balkans we don’t have competition.
We built all the tunnels on the corridors in Serbia. We cooperate with Russian companies that were involved in the construction of the RZD Railway tunnels and the latest of all is the signing of a major contract for the construction of the subway tunnels in the Portuguese city of Porto. Also, we signed a full contract for the use of our steel arches for the construction of the supports for the entire subway tunnel.
The business deal with the Portuguese partners is of great importance for this Macedonian steel factory. In fact, we got the job after the trial period had passed – a test truck where we installed our steel elements. The builders were amazed at the quality of the work, from a small company coming from an equally small country. And, not to be modest, this successful work is certainly due to the experience of external engineering. People – masters in their class, who supported us and saw authority and future in Atom Steel LTD, and accepted to help us using their acquired knowledge and experience.
At the moment, Atom Steel is in negotiations for signing a contract for the delivery of large, supporting tracks, and conveyors for tunnels in Switzerland. Basically, the engineering team works on a ready-made project, develops the drawings, manufactures the rings, packs them in special trucks, and delivers them to the location where they are installed, but the installation is carried out by other companies. During the construction of underground structures, our team is the main and responsible in the steel elements section.
